No More Chiasmus!

The overwhelming response today was NO MORE CHIASMUS.

Okie-dokie. No more sentences using the chiasmus pattern. Think of it this way: you will never forget this sentence pattern! In addition, in wrting in this pattern, you produced these memorable sentences:

  • Ask not how capacious your country is, but how your country can be more capacious. -- Sarabeth

  • Joe hated to be palpitated by the doctor and refused to remove his shirt; the doctor hated it when his patients made his job difficult. -- Ethan

  • Don't ask someone to allay your fears; but ask if you can allay someone's fears. -- Josh

  • Propitious seemed their plan, but it was flawed in reality. -- Nathan

  • The didactic way she taught the class was classy in that it was didactic.--Zach

  • The capacious room held many treasures, but the treasures were not held by the capacious room. -- Andrew

  • His capacious stomach filled, in filling it was no long capacious. -- Amy

  • The capacious countryside was said to be refreshing; after feeling refreshed, I left the capacious countryside. -- Tim Yan

  • His heart palpitates when he is in love; and being in love makes the palpitations of his heart. -- Joy

  • This didactic poetry will teach you a lesson, but the lesson will not be one on poetry. -- Julie

  • The weather man claimed today would be propitious, but the unpropitious day proved him wrong. -- Emily

  • Phlegmatic or apathetic people are boring; but not all boring people are phlegmatic. -- Ross

  • The punishment was mitigated; the mitigation lessened the punishment. -- Rachel

  • That which is diurnal is not always safe; but that which is safe is not always diurnal. -- Char
